(Holly - your wish...) For the moment, I've fallen out of love with cycling after that bloody Beast ( ). A great shame as I'd just had a load of new parts for my road bike and it felt like new! Anyway... once the love affair is rekindled, I like the sound of doing the Dragon. I'm also trying to get cycling going in the school where I work (St Boniface's) and am just taking a break from writing out a funding bid for bikes to look at the forum! Will be looking to get something going at Newnham next year for local schools if successful (so might need some assistance... ahemmm!) Main goal though = get my bird back onto her lovely bike after bringing our kid into the world! (I know... pass the sick bag)

Goals for 2010 (more selfish than Chris's)
Gold in the Classic (missed by about 7 mins this year). Complete the Tour of Wessex. Complete the Dragon. Qualify for the Time Trial Best Alrounder (means doing a 50mile TT!) Complete the North Cornwall Tor (without walking?!)

Hmmm... goals for next year...
A Gold Medal in the 100 mile Dartmoor Classic (It won't be easy, but I think I can do it).
Enter a few more events - wouldn't it be great to have some more YOGi entries in a few local races? Criteriums would suit a lot of the riders in the club (you know who you are!).
To get fit enough to take part (I wont say race!) in the Three Peaks in September...
Oh yeah, an eternal favourite of mine:drop 2 stone of man fat...

Here goes for me:
11th April: Either The Lakeland Loop Cycle Sportive in Cumbria or The Hell of the North Cotswold in Wiltshire 16th May: North Cornwall Tor (route looks superb next year) 6th June: Dragon ride (a new one for me. Kim recommends it) 26th - 27th June: Exmouth Exodus (night ride), followed by the Dartmoor Classic - About 210miles over a period of less than 20 hours. Needless to say, that will be my big challenge for 2010. 18th July: Two Moors 100 September: Either La Lapebie or Les Routes du Ventoux, both in France of course October: Dartmoor Devil
Right now nothing would make me want to enter the Exmoor Beast, so that will be it for 2010.

I'd just like to point that The Hell of the North Cotswolds is in fact in Gloucestershire though it would be nice to claim it for the county of my forefathers.
The Hell of the North Cotswolds is good. I've done it 3 times now along with William one year. You'll need either an MTB with narrow not too knobbly tyres or a cyclocross bike. Not sure I'll do it next year as I may have to go on holiday.
The Dragon is immense. Big pelotons and very long climbs. Entry open at midnight 27th December - get in very quick, and then train like hell.

No more Events for me this year, so I thought I'd have a look back at what I wrote here last year, and see how many of my targets I hit:
Gold in the Classic (missed by about 7 mins this year). MISS - tyre and tube problems, quit at Tavistock Complete the Tour of Wessex. HIT - but slowly for the first couple of days cos I was looking after Ali Complete the Dragon. HIT - A good day, but I think I was outside bronze! Qualify for the Time Trial Best Alrounder (means doing a 50mile TT!) HIT - but I think I was bottom of those who completed! Complete the North Cornwall Tor (without walking?!) HIT - on my mountain bike.
Now, targets for 2011.
Gold in the Classic. Possibly do the South West 600km Audax (or Tour of Wessex, they're the same weekend in May) North Cornwall Tor Qualify for Best All Rounder 100mile TT? Exmouth Exodus

That's it so far :-)

Hi Guys I am a new to the club. My new year's goal is to take a part in an event, some MTB race. I am a newbie, trying to cycle as much as possible. I would like to start proper training. At the moment I am cycling to work at least 3 days a week (7miles one way) and trying one longer ride over the weekend. I heard about a book , some kind of Mountain Biker's Bible. Any suggestions how to start??
