Was just wondering... I was asked by a club member - out on Saturday's ride - why we don't have club 'meetings' where any club member can turn up, get to know other club members in an environment other than a weekly YOGi ride and to chat about cycling in general and join in with club related topics etc...
I understand that this Forum presents club members the opportunity to do more or less the same things as I've mentioned above, but as I've been a member of 4 other cycling clubs in the past I'm aware of the benefits that regular club meetings can bring to members.
I've noticed that a lot of the users of this Forum are the same people who regularily frequent the YOGi news page so perhaps members who don't contribute to either would welcome the opportunity to let their feelings be known in a less 'formal' environment... afterall, I think people would be more forthcoming with their views in the more relaxed and 'private' atmosphere of a club meet rather than on a Forum where all and sundry can see stuff?
I'd be interested to find out what some of the other club members think. Would they be in favour of a regular club meet - be it on a weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly basis or are they happy to have things the way they are now with 'only' the club commitee meeting up and deciding things? We have around a 100 members now so I think there should be a few people out there with a wish to express a view? I could be wrong though (not for the first time either!).

I've been to 'other' clubs weekly meetings - one of the reasons I never joined a club, wasn't asked either.
We already meet at least 5 times a week on rides. Personally I have no more time to give.
We also have regular social events which are much more fun than any club of any type that I've ever experienced. My view is that if you want to meet club members outside of actual YOGi rides then come to a social.
If people don't want to discuss club matters on the forum they can always email us directly and if they wish we will give out our telephone number if they don't already have it. I can't guarantee that you will get an email response immediately but you will get one.
I say all this on a personal level, I'd be interested to hear other peoples views on the subject. If there is a demand pehaps you could meet at a pub - just don't expect me to be there!

Fair enough Kim. Time constraints affect us all in one way or another. You put enough of your time in to the club as it is...
I suppose club meets are what you make them really. I've been to meets in pubs, club huts and peoples' houses in the past and I nearly always found something of interest going on.
Social events are just that though... people don't really get to have a say on club matters. I think it would just be more 'democratic' if more people outside the small circle of committee members had more of an input in club related matters.
I'd just like to make clear that I'm not pressing this point of view for myself as I have limited time available to devote to my hobby as it is so probably wouldn't be able to make club meetings anyway, but maybe some others out there are in a different situation? The ball's in everyone else's court really - if there's demand then great, if not, then it's no great disaster as things are pretty good the way they are at the moment.

I'm quite happy to meet in a pub say once a month, if you're buying ;D Don't know about the other committee members?
On the subject of committee, people will be able to put themselves up for election in April. And we will also have an Annual General Meeting.

Cool! I don't mind putting my hand in my pocket once in a while... perhaps I'll wait 'til the Annual General Meeting in April though!
