The best Audax in the West. 100km over Dartmoor, including Dartmeet and Widecombe right at the end. I'm in, has anybody else entered? I've done it the last 2 years (was 1st home last year!). It's a good friendly ride to end the season, Halowe'en themed costumes are optional. www.ctcdevon.co.uk/devil99.htm

What a truly awful website... still, i might very well enter too. Any idea what time it start, and where from in Bovey Tracey?

There are two start times, 8am and 9am, I'm off at 8. Starts at the Cromwell Arms pub, in the middle of Bovey Tracey, the finish is at the pub in Manaton, so there is nice downhill ride from the finish back down to the start (assuming you park in Bovey Tracey). It always sells out pretty quickly so if you're going to do it, enter as soon as you can.

Hello yogi people, jamie here aka vorsprung
Hopefully I will see you at the 9am start. Please wear a jersey or a large neon flashing signpost. If I can organise a lift back I think I will ride to the start from where I live nr Tiverton

Has anyone else (Kim? William?) signed up for the Devil? If you're in, what time are you starting? Looks like the weather's going to be ok. BTW, Kim in theory mudguards are compulsory, but I've not seen anyone checking.

Hi Mike,
I didn't bother putting an entry in as I wasn't sure I'd be around. I need to get some mudguards, I got seriously mucky today.

How did it go William? I hope you made it to the start in time, you were looking a bit lost when I saw you in the the car. I found it really hard today, some really tough new hills, especially the narrow, leafy, pot-holey one near Moretonhampstead, a real struggle. And the strong headwind on the way to Princetown was hard going. I came in 4th of the 8am starters, but much slower than last year, about 6hrs 20 mins. The guy who came 3rd was riding a fixed wheel!!!! Hope you enjoyed it.

I was indeed a bit lost when you saw us. I bailed out when reaching the rood to princetown. I had promised my wife that it wouldn't be an all day ride, and arranged to meet around 1:30pm. Had I carried on, I expect it would have taken a little longer than you. I still can't believe it would have taken me the same time as it took to do the 100 miles Dartmoor Classic. I really should have looked at the route more carefully. As you said, there were some vicious climbs and so many of them that Dartmeet didn't even feel like a threat. Shame I didn't make it there, but I'll be back. About the guy riding fixed, he probably walked some of the steepest climbs, but one thing is for sure, he probably had more control going down some of those trashed roads covered in leaves. I felt totally terrified having to rely on 4 bits of rubber when the best way to keep a safe line would have been to lock the back wheel and skid.

The Devil clashes with the Exmoor Beast this year; both on 31st October. They're both tough events but I think I'll save £20 and do the Devil.
